AICTE Launches Industry Fellowship Programme 2026 to Bridge Academia–Industry Gap

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched the Industry Fellowship Programme (IFP) 2026, a new initiative designed to strengthen collaboration between technical institutions and industry. The programme aims to provide faculty members with hands-on industrial exposure, enabling them to bring practical knowledge and emerging technologies into engineering and management classrooms.

Under the fellowship, selected faculty members from AICTE-approved institutions will spend time working with leading industries to gain real-world experience in manufacturing, technology, research and innovation. Participants selected under the programme will receive a monthly fellowship of ₹1 lakh during the industry attachment period, making it one of AICTE’s most significant faculty development initiatives.

Education experts believe that stronger industry exposure for faculty members will help bridge the long-standing gap between classroom teaching and evolving workplace requirements. As industries rapidly adopt Artificial Intelligence, automation, robotics and digital technologies, educators are expected to continuously upgrade their knowledge to prepare students for future careers.

The programme aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages experiential learning, innovation and stronger partnerships between educational institutions and industry. AICTE expects the initiative to improve curriculum relevance while promoting research and technology transfer across institutions.

Faculty members participating in the fellowship will gain exposure to industrial processes, project management, product development and emerging business practices. After completing the programme, they are expected to integrate these learnings into teaching methodologies, laboratory practices and student projects.

Industry leaders have welcomed the initiative, stating that closer collaboration between academia and businesses can help create graduates with skills that match current market demands. Such partnerships are also expected to encourage internships, research collaborations and innovation-driven entrepreneurship among students.
