The National Testing Agency has released its tentative examination calendar covering major examinations from December 2026 to March 2027.
The calendar includes important examinations such as UGC-NET, Joint CSIR-UGC NET, JEE Main 2027 Session 1, NIFT Entrance Examination, CMAT and CUET-PG.
For students, the calendar provides an important planning framework because several major entrance and eligibility examinations will take place within a relatively concentrated period.
JEE Main 2027 Session 1 is scheduled for January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, according to the announced schedule. UGC-NET is scheduled for December 14 to 19, while other examinations will take place through January, February and March.
The dates are tentative, meaning candidates should continue checking official NTA notifications for changes.
The release of the calendar is important because many students prepare simultaneously for multiple competitive examinations. Engineering aspirants may need to coordinate JEE preparation with school or university commitments, while postgraduate and research candidates may be preparing for UGC-NET and CUET-PG.
The calendar also gives educational institutions a broader view of the examination cycle.
Coaching centres, schools and universities can use the schedule to plan academic calendars, mock examinations and preparation programmes. Students can similarly divide their preparation into subject-specific phases instead of approaching every examination as a separate event.
JEE Main remains one of India’s largest engineering entrance examinations, while UGC-NET plays an important role in determining eligibility for teaching and research-related academic pathways.
CUET-PG provides a common entrance route for postgraduate admissions across participating universities.
The concentration of these examinations also highlights the growing importance of examination planning.
Students often face overlapping application windows, admit-card releases, city-intimation notices and examination dates. Having a central calendar can reduce uncertainty and allow candidates to plan preparation more systematically.
However, the calendar should not be treated as a substitute for individual examination notices.
NTA can issue changes to dates, application procedures or examination arrangements when required. Candidates therefore need to check the official examination portal for the latest instructions.
For XEducation, the announcement is significant because India’s competitive examination ecosystem now covers a wide range of academic pathways through a common national testing infrastructure.
The next few months will be particularly important for students preparing for engineering, research, management, fashion and postgraduate entrance examinations.
