The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released its tentative examination calendar for the December 2026 to March 2027 cycle, giving students an early roadmap for several major entrance, eligibility and professional examinations.
The calendar covers 14 examinations, including UGC-NET, Joint CSIR-UGC NET, JEE Main 2027, CMAT, CUET-PG and other examinations conducted by the testing agency. The NTA has clarified that the schedule is tentative and candidates must follow individual examination notifications for final dates, application windows and detailed instructions.
For engineering aspirants, JEE Main 2027 Session 1 is proposed to be conducted between January 22 and January 24 and January 28 and January 30, 2027. The examination will therefore be conducted over multiple days and shifts, with candidates expected to follow the city, shift and session information issued by the NTA.
The UGC-NET December 2026 examination is scheduled in the calendar for December 14 to 19. The examination is important for candidates seeking eligibility for Assistant Professor positions, Junior Research Fellowship and PhD admissions, depending on their qualification category and applicable rules.
The calendar also includes CUET-PG, which is used for postgraduate admissions across participating higher-education institutions. The examination is scheduled within the March 2027 window.
For students, the publication of the calendar provides an opportunity to begin planning preparation schedules several months in advance. However, the calendar should not be treated as a substitute for the individual examination notification because application dates, eligibility criteria, syllabus details, examination cities and other instructions may be released separately.
The NTA’s latest announcement comes after a year in which several of its examinations have undergone operational changes, including re-examinations and revised procedures for some tests.
The agency has also published notices related to the UGC-NET June 2026 re-examination and other examinations on its official website, making it important for candidates to monitor official notifications rather than relying solely on social-media updates or coaching-centre announcements.
For JEE Main candidates, the January 2027 dates are particularly relevant because the examination is a major pathway for undergraduate engineering admissions and also forms part of the eligibility process for the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced.
Similarly, UGC-NET candidates should use the calendar to plan preparation while waiting for the detailed December-session notification.
CUET-PG aspirants can also use the broad March window to organise university-specific requirements, since admission processes can involve additional application or counselling stages after the entrance examination.
The announcement also highlights the growing importance of advance academic planning. Students preparing for competitive examinations often have to balance school, university coursework, coaching, mock tests and application requirements.
By announcing the examination cycle several months in advance, the NTA has provided students with a common planning reference, although the dates remain subject to change.
The next important stage will be the release of individual examination notices containing application forms, fees, eligibility rules, syllabus information, correction windows and city-intimation details.
Students should therefore treat the calendar as an initial planning document and verify every subsequent update on the relevant NTA examination portal.
