UGC Approves Six New Undergraduate Courses for Ambedkar Open University

Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to launch six new undergraduate programmes, expanding learning opportunities for students through the open and distance learning system. Admissions for the new courses began on 1 August, marking a significant step in strengthening flexible higher education in India.

The newly approved programmes include Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Science (BSc) and other undergraduate options designed to cater to students from different academic backgrounds. With UGC recognition, these programmes will carry the same academic validity as other approved undergraduate degrees, making them suitable for employment and higher education.

Open universities play an important role in India’s higher education system by providing flexible learning options for students who cannot attend regular colleges. Eligible universities offering ODL and online programmes must comply with academic standards, infrastructure requirements and quality assurance measures. Students are advised to verify that their chosen institution and course are recognised by the UGC before taking admission to ensure their degree is valid.

For Ambedkar Open University, the approval is expected to expand its academic reach and attract more learners seeking affordable and flexible education. The new undergraduate courses will provide students with additional subject choices while supporting lifelong learning and career development.
