UGC Pushes Universities to Complete Academic Bank of Credits Upload by June 30

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all higher education institutions to complete the upload of students’ academic records for the 2025 examination year to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) platform by June 30, 2026. The directive is aimed at accelerating the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and strengthening India’s digital academic ecosystem.

The Academic Bank of Credits enables students to digitally store, transfer and redeem academic credits earned from recognized institutions. The platform supports flexible learning pathways, allowing students to pause, resume or switch academic programmes while retaining previously earned credits. Universities have been instructed to ensure that all eligible student records are uploaded within the stipulated timeline.

Education experts believe the ABC platform is one of the key reforms introduced under NEP 2020 to make higher education more student-centric and flexible. By digitizing academic records, institutions can simplify verification, improve transparency and reduce paperwork during admissions, credit transfers and degree issuance.

The UGC has clarified that institutions failing to upload records before the deadline may face difficulties in processing future academic transactions through the platform. Universities and autonomous colleges have therefore been advised to verify student data carefully and complete the process within the prescribed timeframe.

Students are expected to benefit from faster access to verified academic records, smoother mobility between institutions and simplified recognition of credits across participating universities. The initiative also supports multidisciplinary education by allowing learners to accumulate credits from different institutions throughout their academic journey.

Digital academic repositories are becoming increasingly important as universities adopt technology-driven governance systems. Experts note that centralized academic databases improve administrative efficiency while helping students access verified educational credentials whenever required.

The move aligns with the government’s broader vision of creating a digitally connected higher education ecosystem.
