DU Allows 11 Colleges to Admit Students on Class 12 Marks as Seats Remain Vacant

The University of Delhi has allowed 11 colleges to admit undergraduate students on the basis of their Class 12 marks for selected courses, creating an alternative admission route for students who did not secure seats through the Common University Entrance Test.

The decision comes as several colleges continue to have a large number of vacant undergraduate seats despite multiple rounds of CUET based admissions. Delhi University has opened this route across 80 college course combinations, with more than half of the seats remaining vacant in some colleges. The university has said the move is aimed at making better use of available seats as the 2026 admission cycle moves towards its final stages.

Under the new arrangement, students who did not appear for CUET can also apply for eligible courses. Students who appeared for the entrance test but could not secure a seat through their CUET score can also get another opportunity through the Class 12 marks based route.

The University of Delhi has made it clear that CUET remains the main route for undergraduate admission. The Class 12 marks based system is being used for specific courses and colleges where vacancies remain.

The colleges included in the latest list are Kalindi College, Zakir Husain Delhi College Evening, Lakshmibai College, Rajdhani College, Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women, PGDAV College Evening, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Vivekanand College, Shyam Lal College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Bhagini Nivedita College.

The courses available through this route cover a wide range of subjects. Kalindi College, for example, has opened admissions for BA Honours Hindi, BA Honours Sanskrit and BSc Honours Physics. Lakshmibai College is offering BA Honours Sanskrit, while Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce has opened BA Honours Punjabi.

Several other colleges have a larger number of courses available. Bhagini Nivedita College is offering admissions across subjects including Hindi, History, Political Science, Commerce, Home Science and Physics, along with several multidisciplinary BA programmes. Aditi Mahavidyalaya is offering courses covering areas such as Geography, Hindi Journalism, Social Work, Commerce and several multidisciplinary combinations.

The decision is particularly important for students who may have missed CUET or were unable to obtain a preferred college through the regular admission process. It gives eligible students another chance to enter Delhi University without relying on a CUET score for the specified programmes.

For students interested in applying, eligibility will depend on the individual course and college requirements. Candidates should check the official Delhi University admission portal for the latest course wise information, eligibility conditions and application instructions before submitting an application. DU has also announced that its CSAS Spot Round 1 application process is scheduled to begin on August 23, with seat allocation results due on August 25.

The development also raises questions about the current undergraduate admission process. CUET was introduced to create a common entrance system for university admissions, but the continued presence of vacant seats shows that some colleges and courses are still finding it difficult to fill their sanctioned intake.

For students, however, the immediate message is simple. A missed CUET opportunity does not necessarily mean the end of the road for every Delhi University course. For selected programmes at the 11 colleges, Class 12 marks can now provide another route to admission.
