Bihar Public Service Commission examinations attract thousands of candidates every year because they provide opportunities for government positions across different departments.
The latest 72nd Combined Competitive Examination has 1,189 vacancies listed in the BPSC examination calendar. However, candidates should pay particular attention to the latest examination updates because the preliminary examination scheduled for October 25, 2026 has been postponed. BPSC has stated that a revised date will be announced.
The postponement should not be interpreted as a reason to slow down preparation.
In fact, additional preparation time can be useful if candidates use it properly.
BPSC preparation requires a combination of static knowledge and current affairs.
The first step should be understanding the examination syllabus. Candidates should divide subjects into manageable sections instead of trying to study everything simultaneously.
History, geography, polity, economics, general science and current affairs should form the foundation of preparation.
Bihar-specific knowledge is also important.
Candidates should regularly study Bihar’s history, geography, economy, culture and government programmes.
Current affairs should not be treated as a separate subject that is studied only before the examination. A better strategy is to maintain weekly notes covering major national, international and Bihar-related developments.
Mock tests are equally important.
Candidates should initially use mock tests to identify weak areas. Later, they should use them under strict time conditions.
One recent change reported for the BPSC 72nd preliminary examination was the introduction of an “E” option for unanswered questions. Candidates who leave a question unanswered without following the prescribed option can face negative marking under the revised pattern.
Candidates should therefore read the latest official instructions carefully rather than relying on previous years’ patterns.
The biggest mistake in competitive examination preparation is collecting too many resources.
One reliable book, good current-affairs source, previous-year papers and regular mock tests can be more useful than a library of unfinished material.
The objective should be consistent improvement.
