Mumbai: The Maharashtra government is preparing to introduce artificial intelligence supported classrooms across nearly 80,000 government schools in an effort to strengthen teaching and learning practices in the state’s public education system.
Officials in the school education department said the proposal aims to deploy digital tools that can assist teachers with lesson delivery, monitor student engagement and generate learning insights based on classroom data. The initiative is part of a broader push to expand the use of technology in government schools.
According to preliminary plans, AI based systems will help track attendance, analyse learning patterns and support teachers in identifying students who may require additional academic support. Education authorities have said the technology will function as an aid to teachers rather than replace classroom instruction.
The project is expected to be implemented in phases and will involve training teachers to use the new digital tools effectively. Officials believe the move could improve learning outcomes, particularly in rural and semi urban schools where access to advanced educational resources remains limited.
The proposal is currently under administrative consideration, and the state government is assessing the financial and technical framework required to roll out the programme at scale.
