Jamia Millia Islamia Introduces One-Year PG Programmes in 13 Disciplines Through Online and Distance Learning

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has approved one-year postgraduate programmes in 13 disciplines through online and open-distance learning modes for the 2026-27 academic session, expanding the university’s postgraduate offerings beyond the traditional two-year format. The move places Jamia among central universities implementing shorter postgraduate pathways in line with changes associated with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The programmes have been approved through JMI’s Centre for Distance and Online Education. The new offerings include an MBA along with postgraduate programmes across multiple disciplines. The university’s decision comes after Delhi University also operationalised one-year postgraduate programmes for students completing four-year undergraduate degrees.

The development reflects a broader restructuring of higher education under the NEP framework, which seeks to introduce greater flexibility in academic pathways.
