Centre Launches Six-Month Bridge Course For Primary Teachers: Check Eligibility, Course Details

The Ministry of Education has launched a six-month Certificate (Bridge) Course in Primary Teacher Education for in-service primary school teachers who hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the programme in New Delhi on September 16, 2026. The course is designed to provide additional training to teachers working at the primary level and help them develop skills suited to the learning needs of children in Classes I to V.

The programme will be implemented through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). According to the Ministry of Education, the course is intended to provide a pathway for eligible B.Ed.-qualified teachers to obtain certification for teaching at the primary level.

What Is Primary Teacher Education Bridge Course?

The six-month Certificate (Bridge) Course in Primary Teacher Education is a professional development programme for in-service teachers who already hold a B.Ed. qualification.
