Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh has announced a major initiative to improve the quality of education and residential management in its network of government-run Sarvodaya Vidyalayas by adopting the best practices followed by the country’s top boarding schools. The state social welfare department will formalise this collaboration with the Boarding Schools Association of India (BSAI) through a memorandum of understanding.
The programme, unveiled at a meeting held at The Doon School in Dehradun, aims to bring structured improvements to academic delivery, student welfare, hostel management and administrative processes across all 125 Sarvodaya institutions operated by the department. The residential schools provide free education and boarding to students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and other socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Under the plan, teams of principals and teachers from Sarvodaya Vidyalayas will visit prestigious BSAI-affiliated boarding schools to observe their teaching methods, student care systems, discipline frameworks and overall operational routines. These insights will form the basis of a standard operating procedure that will be implemented uniformly across all Sarvodaya schools in the state.
Uttar Pradesh minister of state for social welfare with independent charge Asim Arun presided over the meeting and said that the exercise is aimed at strengthening the learning environment and hostel experience for students enrolled in the state’s residential schools. The exchange of best practices is expected to enhance academic standards and enrich holistic development programmes within the Sarvodaya system.
The move is part of broader efforts to improve government-run residential education in Uttar Pradesh, which has steadily expanded access for underprivileged students.
