The Government of Tripura has approved the establishment of pre-primary sections in 450 government schools, marking a significant step towards strengthening early childhood education in the state.
Officials said the expansion is in line with the National Education Policy 2020, which places emphasis on foundational literacy and numeracy during the early years of schooling. The move is expected to integrate children aged three to six into a structured learning environment within the formal school system.
The decision also seeks to bridge gaps between anganwadi centres and primary schools by creating a more seamless transition for young learners. By situating pre-primary classes within existing school infrastructure, the state aims to improve both access and continuity in early education.
Authorities have indicated that trained educators, age-appropriate learning material and activity-based teaching methods will form the backbone of the initiative. The rollout is expected to begin in the upcoming academic session, with a focus on gradual scaling based on available resources and feedback from initial implementation.
