The Telangana government has announced a fresh set of measures to strengthen girls’ education across the state, with a focus on access, retention and student well-being. The initiatives include the expansion of Young India Integrated Residential Schools and Colleges, improved nutrition programmes and additional support for students from marginalised communities.
Under the plan, more Young India Integrated Residential Schools and Colleges will be set up to provide free, high-quality education to girls from Class 6 to postgraduate level. These institutions aim to offer uninterrupted schooling and higher education under one system, along with residential facilities, books and learning materials at no cost. The government said the model is designed to reduce dropouts and help girls complete higher education.
Nutrition support has been strengthened through enhanced meal programmes in hostels and residential schools. The focus is on balanced diets to improve health outcomes, attendance and learning levels among girl students. Officials said better nutrition remains central to keeping girls in school, especially those from economically weaker families.
The state is also increasing hostel capacity and upgrading existing facilities to ensure safety and a supportive learning environment. Special attention is being given to girls from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minority groups and other disadvantaged sections, with targeted scholarships and welfare schemes continuing alongside the new initiatives.
According to the government, these measures form part of a broader effort to address gender gaps in education and create long-term opportunities for girls through sustained public investment. Education officials said the programmes will be monitored closely to ensure quality standards and timely implementation across districts.
