The West Bengal School Service Commission on Tuesday published a panel of 18,900 candidates shortlisted for appointment as higher secondary teachers for Classes 11 and 12, marking a key step in the long-delayed recruitment process.
According to officials, the panel has been prepared following directions from the Calcutta High Court and covers subject-wise vacancies across government and government-aided schools in the state. The shortlisted candidates were selected on the basis of their performance in the State Level Selection Test and subsequent verification processes mandated by the court.
The commission said the panel will remain valid for one year and appointments will be made against available vacancies during this period. Candidates included in the list have been advised to regularly check official notifications related to counselling and school allotment.
This development comes amid ongoing scrutiny of teacher recruitment in West Bengal, with several earlier panels having been cancelled after courts flagged irregularities. SSC officials said the current panel has been prepared strictly in line with legal directions to avoid further disputes.
Education department sources indicated that schools facing acute staff shortages at the higher secondary level are expected to benefit once appointments are completed. The commission added that any grievance related to the panel can be submitted through the prescribed channel within the stipulated timeframe.
