Admissions under the Right to Education Act have drawn a strong response in Ranchi this year, with 1,499 applications received for 1,161 seats reserved for economically weaker section students in private schools. The figures point to sustained demand for access to quality education among disadvantaged families.
Officials overseeing the process have said that the allocation of seats will be carried out through a lottery system after document verification is completed. The exercise is being conducted to ensure transparency and adherence to the provisions of the Act, which mandates 25 per cent reservation for eligible students in entry-level classes.
Parents have been advised to complete verification formalities within the stipulated timeline to secure eligibility for the draw. Authorities have also indicated that schools will be required to honour the admissions once allotments are finalised.
The continued oversubscription highlights both the reach of the RTE framework and the gap between demand and available seats in private institutions. Education experts note that while the policy has expanded access, capacity constraints remain a persistent concern in urban centres.
