Rajasthan has become the first state in India to launch state-run Sainik Schools exclusively for girls, marking a significant step in widening access to structured military-oriented education for young women. Two such residential institutions are scheduled to begin operations in April 2026, positioning the state at the forefront of efforts to integrate girls more deeply into preparatory pathways for uniformed services.
Sainik Schools have traditionally functioned as feeder institutions that instil discipline, leadership and academic rigour while preparing students for entry into the armed forces. By establishing girls-only campuses under state administration, Rajasthan is extending this model to create focused environments where female students can train with the same institutional backing and resources.
The schools will offer residential facilities and a curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in the armed forces, police and related services, combining formal academics with physical training and character development. The move also reflects broader national conversations on increasing women’s participation in defence and security sectors.
With the April 2026 rollout, Rajasthan’s initiative signals both a policy shift and a symbolic milestone, underscoring the state’s intent to institutionalise opportunities for girls in fields historically dominated by men.
