The Rajasthan government is preparing to introduce facial recognition systems for student attendance in government schools, alongside a broader push to integrate artificial intelligence into classroom learning. The proposal reflects an increasing reliance on technology to address administrative gaps and improve learning outcomes.
Officials indicated that the attendance system aims to ensure accuracy and reduce discrepancies in student records, a persistent concern in large public school networks. The move is expected to be rolled out in phases, beginning with select institutions before a wider expansion.
In parallel, the state is planning to establish AI-enabled labs to support personalised learning and digital literacy. The initiative is aligned with the broader objectives of the National Education Policy, which emphasises the role of emerging technologies in education.
While the proposal has been framed as a step towards modernisation, it has also raised questions around data privacy, infrastructure readiness and teacher training. Experts have cautioned that the success of such measures will depend on robust safeguards and sustained investment in capacity building.
As states explore technology-led reforms, Rajasthan’s plan underscores both the possibilities and the complexities of integrating advanced systems into the public education framework.
