The Punjab government has proposed an allocation of ₹19,279 crore for the education sector in the 2026–27 state budget, signalling a renewed push to strengthen school infrastructure and learning outcomes across the state.
Presenting the budget, state finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the government plans to redesign the education ecosystem through a series of reforms aimed at improving access, infrastructure and career guidance for students.
A key component of the plan is the launch of ‘Sikhya Kranti 2.0’, a new phase of education reforms that will focus on upgrading schools, strengthening foundational learning and expanding support services for students. The programme is expected to include improvements in school facilities and the introduction of career counselling initiatives across the state.
Officials said the expanded allocation reflects the government’s attempt to modernise the education system and equip students with skills required for emerging opportunities. The proposals also aim to improve the quality of schooling and prepare students for higher education and global employment prospects.
The announcement comes at a time when several states are increasing education spending in their annual budgets, with a focus on infrastructure upgrades, skill development and learning reforms.
