Balasore, Odisha: At the convocation of Fakir Mohan University in Balasore, President Droupadi Murmu said that students learn more effectively when taught in their mother tongue because it helps them grasp local customs, environment and culture along with academic subjects. She paid homage to Fakir Mohan Senapati, recalling how his story Rebati shaped her own educational journey.
Speaking about India’s rich intellectual heritage, the President said the nation’s ancient scriptures and manuscripts contain deep knowledge across fields such as science, medicine and architecture and urged young scholars to explore this tradition.
Addressing graduates, Murmu said that a commitment to knowledge and purpose will bring social recognition and urged them to support those left behind in the developmental process. She said that while success brings prestige, a life of meaning comes from serving others.
A total of 1,831 undergraduates and postgraduates received degrees and medals at the ceremony. Officials present included the Chancellor of the university, the local Member of Parliament and the state Higher Education Minister.
