Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the importance of nurturing a research-oriented mindset among school students, citing the work of the Prayoga Institute of Education Research as a noteworthy example.
Referring to the institute’s ‘Anveshana’ programme, the Prime Minister noted that encouraging students to engage in hands-on research at an early stage can strengthen scientific temper and critical thinking. The initiative enables students to undertake small-scale investigations, moving beyond textbook learning to practical inquiry.
The remarks come amid a broader policy push to align classroom practices with inquiry-based learning, a key principle under current education reforms. Educators have increasingly flagged the need to shift from rote methods to approaches that allow students to question, experiment and analyse.
The endorsement is likely to draw attention to similar models across states, particularly at a time when schools are being encouraged to integrate experiential learning into their curricula. The larger challenge, however, remains in scaling such initiatives while ensuring adequate teacher training and institutional support.
