Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that the Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University is playing a key role in developing Hindi as a language of knowledge, aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy.
Addressing a programme organised by the university, the minister said Indian languages must move beyond being mediums of communication and take centre stage in teaching, research, and knowledge creation. He said Hindi has the capacity to serve as a bridge between traditional wisdom and modern disciplines, provided academic institutions invest in original scholarship, terminology development, and quality translations.
Pradhan underlined that universities have a responsibility to produce textbooks, research papers, and academic resources in Indian languages so that higher education becomes more accessible to students from diverse backgrounds. He noted that MGIHU has emerged as an important institution in this effort by encouraging research, publishing academic material, and supporting interdisciplinary work in Hindi.
The minister also pointed to the role of technology in expanding the reach of Indian languages, calling for greater use of digital tools, translation platforms, and knowledge repositories. He said such efforts would help create an academic ecosystem where students can study, research, and innovate in their mother tongue without limitations.
University officials said MGIHU continues to work towards enriching Hindi through academic programmes, research initiatives, and collaborations, with the larger aim of positioning Indian languages at the heart of higher education and knowledge systems.
