The Uttar Pradesh government is set to open a Kalpana Chawla Space Lab within the Raj Bhavan premises in Lucknow, with the facility aimed at introducing school students to space science and astronomy.
According to officials, the space lab will function as an interactive learning centre, offering hands-on exposure to basic concepts related to space, satellites, rockets, and planetary science. The initiative is part of a broader effort to spark interest in science among students, particularly at the school level.
Named after astronaut Kalpana Chawla, the lab will feature models, exhibits, and digital installations designed to simplify complex scientific ideas. Students visiting the Raj Bhavan will be able to attend guided sessions and demonstrations curated by science educators.
The lab is being set up inside Raj Bhavan, and officials said it will be accessible to school groups through prior registration. The state government plans to coordinate with the education department to facilitate regular visits by government and private school students.
Sources indicated that the project aligns with the state’s focus on promoting scientific temper and early exposure to emerging fields such as space research. The space lab is expected to become operational in the coming months, once installation of equipment and training of staff is completed.
