Surat witnessed the inauguration of a three-day international multidisciplinary conference at the campus of MITRAJ Sarvajanik Institute of Design, Planning and Technology, organised by the Sarvajanik Education Society and affiliated to Sarvajanik University. The event, titled Designing Identities: Intersections of Art, Architecture, Culture, Religion, Science, Technology and Society, brought together academicians and practitioners from India and several European countries including Belgium, the Netherlands and Romania for discussions on the convergence of diverse scholarly fields.
The conference aims to explore the relationships between creative disciplines and societal development, while addressing contemporary challenges and outlining pathways for sustainable and equitable growth. Delegates from across the globe are presenting insights on topics that span traditional crafts, design thinking, technology impacts and cultural narratives.
Workshops and exhibitions form an integral part of the programme, offering participants hands-on exposure in areas such as photography, pottery, theatre, management, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Students at the institute are engaging with international experts through sessions intended to broaden academic perspectives beyond conventional boundaries.
The inaugural session was attended by Ashish Vakil, chairman of the Sarvajanik Education Society, and Persi Engineer, principal of the institute, alongside faculty members and visiting dignitaries. Organisers said the event reflects a growing emphasis on interdisciplinary education and global academic engagement, particularly for young scholars seeking exposure to international research and practice.
The conference will continue over the next two days with presentations, panel discussions and interactive forums aimed at fostering deeper collaboration between educational institutions and cultural organisations.
