Chennai will host the fourth edition of the Indian Library Congress on February 16 and 17, 2026 at the Anna Centenary Library, Chennai to host Indian Library Congress fourth edition February 2026, marking the first time the national event is held in the city. The two-day programme will bring together students, librarians, education professionals and policy makers to discuss key issues in library development, public access to information, policy frameworks and the evolving role of libraries. The schedule features 10 sessions on topics such as library policy and federalism, social justice, and knowledge production in modern public spaces.
School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Parliament members including Kanimozhi and Su Venkatesan are among the dignitaries expected to participate, alongside retired Justice K Chandru and senior state officials. Organisers said the congress will serve as a forum for sharing expertise and strategies to strengthen libraries as inclusive centres of learning, digital engagement and community interaction.
Speakers have underscored Chennai’s rich reading culture and the importance of contemporary libraries as dynamic public spaces. Senior participants noted efforts underway in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states to reimagine library services to reach broader audiences. Registration is required for attendance and is open to professionals, students and enthusiasts across disciplines.
