The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has announced new academic initiatives aimed at strengthening training and research in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies, sectors that are expected to play a critical role in India’s technology ecosystem.
Officials at the institute said the programmes are designed to expand opportunities for students and researchers working in emerging technology areas. The move comes amid growing demand for specialised talent in chip design, advanced computing and AI driven applications.
The institute plans to expand industry collaborations and research facilities to support work in semiconductor design and fabrication technologies. Faculty members will also work with industry partners to design curriculum modules aligned with current technological developments.
The initiative is expected to include interdisciplinary courses and research opportunities for students across engineering and technology streams. The institute said such programmes are intended to prepare graduates for roles in India’s expanding semiconductor and deep technology sectors.
The announcement reflects a wider push among leading engineering institutions to strengthen training in advanced technologies as India seeks to build capacity in critical areas such as semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence.
