Chandigarh: The Haryana government has introduced a new classroom observation framework to assess teaching practices in government schools, with officials saying the move is aimed at improving the quality of instruction and student engagement.
Under the system, teachers will be evaluated on the basis of 29 behavioural and pedagogical indicators during classroom sessions. The parameters include clarity of explanation, interaction with students, use of teaching aids, classroom management and efforts to encourage participation among learners.
Officials from the State Council of Educational Research and Training will conduct the observations through trained academic mentors and master trainers who will visit schools and record feedback on classroom practices. The assessment is intended to function as an academic support mechanism rather than a disciplinary exercise.
Education department officials said the initiative seeks to identify gaps in teaching methods and provide targeted training to teachers where needed. Feedback gathered through the observations will be used to design professional development programmes and strengthen classroom practices across the state.
The government expects the initiative to help improve learning outcomes by focusing on teaching quality and promoting more interactive classrooms in government schools.
