The Central Board of Secondary Education has initiated a nationwide assessment of foundational learning at the Grade 3 level, marking a significant step in evaluating basic literacy and numeracy across affiliated schools.
The exercise, conducted under the broader framework of national learning benchmarks, is being administered through a digital platform to ensure standardisation and timely analysis of results. Schools have been mobilised to facilitate the assessment, with instructions to ensure maximum participation and smooth execution.
Officials have indicated that the audit is intended to provide a clearer picture of learning outcomes at an early stage of schooling, enabling targeted interventions where gaps are identified. The initiative aligns with the emphasis on foundational education under the National Education Policy, which places early learning at the centre of long-term academic progress.
Educators have welcomed the move as a necessary step towards data-driven policymaking, while also noting the importance of supporting schools with adequate resources and training to address any shortcomings that emerge from the findings.
