The Delhi government’s employment exchange recorded more than 21,000 registrations in 2024, with applicants ranging from school pass-outs to highly qualified postgraduates and PhD holders, according to data shared by the Labour Department.
Officials said the figures underline persistent job-seeking pressure in the capital, cutting across education levels. While a large number of registrants held undergraduate degrees, a significant section comprised candidates with master’s degrees and doctoral qualifications, reflecting limited availability of suitable roles even for those with advanced academic credentials.
Data from the Delhi Labour Department shows that the employment exchange continues to attract fresh registrations despite the rise of private job portals. Many applicants still rely on government-run exchanges for access to notified vacancies, skill mapping, and official certification of unemployment status, which is often required for welfare schemes and recruitment processes.
Officials pointed out that most registrations came from the 18 to 35 age group, with candidates actively seeking clerical, technical, and entry-level professional roles. A smaller but notable number of applicants registered for higher-skilled positions aligned with research, teaching, and specialised services.
The Labour Department said efforts are underway to strengthen placement linkages with both public and private sector employers, improve digital access to the exchange, and align registrations with skill development initiatives run by the Delhi government.
The department added that the registration numbers serve as an indicator of the city’s employment demand and will be used to guide future policy measures aimed at improving job matching and employability outcomes.
