The Central Board of Secondary Education has asked affiliated schools to strengthen career counselling support for students in Classes 10 to 12, with a focus on helping them make informed decisions about higher education and professional courses.
In a communication to schools, the board emphasised that structured career guidance is necessary at the secondary and senior secondary level as students prepare to choose academic streams and competitive examinations. Schools have been encouraged to organise counselling sessions, workshops and orientation programmes involving teachers, counsellors and industry professionals.
Officials said the initiative is intended to ensure that students receive reliable information about emerging career options, entrance examinations and skill based programmes. Schools have also been advised to guide students on mental well being and stress management during examination periods.
The board noted that career counselling should not be limited to a single session but integrated into the academic calendar so that students and parents receive continuous guidance throughout the academic year.
The move is part of broader efforts to strengthen student support systems in schools and help learners navigate the increasing range of higher education and career pathways available after school education.
