The Central Board of Secondary Education has introduced a new curriculum on artificial intelligence and computational thinking for students from Classes 3 to 8, to be implemented from the 2026–27 academic session. The initiative was launched by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as part of efforts to align school education with emerging technological needs.
The curriculum aims to familiarise students with foundational concepts in artificial intelligence at an early stage. It will include modules on logical reasoning, problem-solving, and basic coding, designed to build analytical skills alongside subject learning.

Officials said the move is intended to prepare students for a technology-driven environment by integrating digital literacy into mainstream schooling. Schools affiliated with CBSE are expected to adopt the framework in a phased manner, with supporting training modules for teachers.
Education experts have welcomed the introduction, noting that early exposure to such concepts could help bridge the gap between school education and industry requirements. However, they also flagged the need for adequate infrastructure and teacher preparedness to ensure effective implementation.
The rollout comes at a time when education boards across the country are increasingly incorporating skill-based learning into their curricula, reflecting a broader shift in policy focus.
