Bengaluru City University has launched an outreach exercise with pre university colleges across the city, aiming to reverse a steady slide in undergraduate enrolment and smooth the transition from Class 12 to degree programmes.
Under the initiative, the university has begun engaging directly with principals and teachers of PU colleges to familiarise them with the range of courses on offer, changes in curricula, and admission timelines. Officials said the move is meant to address information gaps that often push students towards private or out of state institutions.
University representatives have been visiting PU campuses, holding orientation sessions for students, and sharing details on new and revised programmes, skill focused courses, and career pathways linked to different degrees. The outreach also highlights eligibility criteria, credit structures, and the scope for interdisciplinary study under the current academic framework.
According to BCU officials, enrolment numbers have dipped over the past few years due to factors such as competition from private universities, limited awareness about course options, and perceptions around quality and employability. By working closely with PU colleges, the university hopes to position itself as a clear and credible choice for students completing their pre university education.
The outreach drive is expected to continue through the current admission cycle, with more campus visits and counselling sessions planned. Officials said feedback from PU colleges will also be used to fine tune programmes and align them better with student expectations and higher education trends in Karnataka.
