A delegation of 20 senior representatives from Australian universities and education bodies arrived in India earlier this week for a series of engagement events designed to expand academic and institutional links between the two countries. The visit is part of the Australia-India Transnational Education Week, held from February 1 to 6.
The group, representing 16 universities and Australian education providers, was led by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, known as Austrade. It participated in the QS India Summit 2026 in Goa, where discussions focused on the intersection of skills development, higher education policy and future workforce needs in the context of India’s long-term growth trajectory.
The Summit theme, “India@2047: Building Skills, Achieving Scale, Driving Innovation,” offered a high-level platform for the delegation to introduce Australian models of transnational education and explore collaborative teaching and research frameworks with Indian counterparts.
Following the Goa summit, the delegation travelled to New Delhi for a global conference on international education. Austrade also arranged briefing sessions, roundtable discussions with Indian stakeholders, and networking meetings with leading Indian universities. These engagements aimed to identify pathways for joint programmes, institutional partnerships and sustainable education models.
Vik Singh, Trade and Investment Commissioner at Austrade, described the mission as a milestone in education engagement between the two countries. Singh said the delegation’s size reflects Australian universities’ interest in forging deeper institutional connections and co-designing programmes that respond to evolving skill requirements in both markets.
The Australia-India TNE Week underscores Australia’s strategic focus on education and skills ties with India under the broader framework of their bilateral economic partnership.
