The All India Council for Technical Education has asked engineering institutions across the country to strengthen internship opportunities and practical training for students as part of efforts to improve industry readiness among graduates.
In a recent advisory to technical institutions, the regulator emphasised the need for colleges to work closely with industry partners so that students receive hands on exposure during their academic programmes. The council said internships and project based learning are essential for bridging the gap between classroom instruction and workplace requirements.
AICTE has also encouraged institutions to integrate industry training into the academic curriculum and ensure that students participate in internships before completing their degrees. Colleges have been advised to collaborate with companies, startups and research organisations to create meaningful training opportunities.
Officials said the initiative aims to improve employability among engineering graduates and ensure that technical education keeps pace with changing industry demands. The council has urged institutions to regularly track internship participation and outcomes as part of their academic monitoring systems.
The move comes amid continuing concerns about the job readiness of engineering graduates, with policymakers increasingly emphasising practical learning and industry engagement within higher education.
