The Union Education Ministry has begun a detailed review of the National Curriculum Framework’s implementation, amid concerns that progress remains uneven across states. While some boards have moved ahead with textbook revisions and teacher orientation, others continue to lag, exposing gaps in preparedness ahead of the new academic session.
Officials familiar with the exercise said the review is not merely procedural but intended to identify structural bottlenecks in execution. Particular attention is being paid to how states are adapting pedagogical changes, especially those linked to competency-based learning and revised assessment patterns.
The Centre is learnt to have flagged inconsistencies in teacher training modules, with variations in both quality and pace. This has raised questions about classroom readiness, even in states that have formally adopted the framework.
There is also a growing recognition within the ministry that coordination between central agencies and state bodies needs strengthening. Without this, the risk is that reforms remain confined to policy documents rather than translating into classroom practice.
The coming months are likely to see more frequent consultations with states, as the Centre looks to bring greater uniformity while allowing for regional flexibility. The success of the NCF, officials acknowledge, will depend less on intent and more on the rigour of its implementation.
